Dress Code

PARENTS: Please make sure your dancer adheres to the dress code. Northwestern Studios’ dress requirements are consistent with other professional dance schools throughout the country.

Loose hair interferes with the student’s dancing and baggy clothes, t-shirts and legwarmers prevent the teacher from properly instructing your child.

BALLET -
Pink tights and solid color leotards are required for all ballet classes. Pink ballet shoes with elastic sewn across the top are also required. Short ballet skirts are allowed (but not encouraged for the younger girls). Hair must be pulled of the face and in a ponytail for the younger girls. Beginning with the 5th grade girl’s hair must be secured on top of the head in a bun. Loose hair or ponytails are not acceptable because they interfere with the students’ dancing. Please click on Bun Making Basics on the home page.
JAZZ –
Solid color leotards & tights are required. Baggy pants and T-shirts are not allowed. Tan or black jazz shoes for grade 5 and up. Pink ballet slippers are acceptable for 1st - 4th grades. Hair must be in a bun or ponytail.
TAP –
Tan, or black low-heeled tap or clogging shoes are required for all ages. Hair must be in a ponytail. Pants that are baggy around the feet and ankles will not be allowed.
HIP HOP –
Split-sole dance sneakers and hair in a ponytail. Loose fitting clothes are acceptable.

ALL DANCE SHOES AND TIGHTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT THE STUDIO.

Late Pick-Up & Unsupervised Children

Our staff will not be responsible for any student left at the studio more than 15 minutes after the class is over. Please pick up your dancer promptly, especially if it is the last class of the day. Our teachers and staff have families and busy schedules like you. Do not leave siblings or friends at the studio unsupervised unless cleared by the instructor.

Private Lessons
If a student needs extra help or has missed classes and fallen behind, private lessons are available at a charge of $15 per half – hour. If more than 3 classes are missed after Spring break, the instructor can require the student to take a private lesson to catch up with the rest of the class. The teacher is not to be expected to help a student outside of class except in a paid private lesson.

Withdrawal
Written notification is required for withdrawal! We will not consider the student withdrawn until written notice has been mailed or delivered to the office. The student will be responsible for tuition payments until the studio is notified. We cannot delete fees retroactively. If a student withdraws with a credit balance on account, we hold the credit up for one year from the last class attended. All tuition balances are non-transferable. Registration fees and costume deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Dance Studio Calendar
School- year classes begin in September on the Tuesday after Labor Day. The studio is closed the Wednesday through Sunday of Thanksgiving break and for at least two weeks at the Winter break, coordinating with the public schools schedule. The studio is closed for the public school Easter/Spring Break, beginning on Good Friday and continuing through the next week. The studios’ year concludes with the end of the year performances usually scheduled for one of the last two weekends in May. For all other school holidays and teacher workdays, the studio is OPEN. Since there can be so many snow days, the studio will not necessarily be closed unless the driving conditions are dangerous. Please check the web-site home page, call the studio or check Ray's Weather site after 2 pm to find out if there are classes that day. There will be no refunds for snow days or classes missed by the student. These classes are more than made up with the extra time spent by the instructors during recital week.

Office Hours
We are open Monday through Thursday by 3:30pm. If we do not answer the phone it is because we are busy teaching. Please leave a message. Personal consultations with instructors will be by appointment only. Please do not distract the instructor during or between classes. We are interested in and care about our students so please call the office to set an appointment time.
